Lexington County Soccer Club held its annual meeting on Monday, September 15^th at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington. This was the first annual meeting held since the merger with Lexington Recreational Soccer Club. The main order of business was the election of officers, which produced the following results that are effective January 1, 2009:

Congratulations to all of the above and our sincere best wishes to outgoing officers, particularly David Cockfield who has been an instrumental part of this organization through two mergers and an extensive period of growth. We shall miss his efforts on behalf of the club.

 

Congratulations also to Gonzo Chavarria, upon being elected SC Coach of the Year (Boys) at the recent SCYSA President’s meeting. Gonzo’s u-18 team, which he coached together with Mark Berson, won the u-17 Challenge State Cup, finished second in the Region III premier league and was a finalist in the U18 Challenge State Cup. Thirteen players on the 18 man roster went on to play in college(two are currently Seniors with one committed to Presbyterian) and are now enjoying their first year in various college programs around the Southeast, including several at the University of South Carolina and Presbyterian College.

 

Finally, congratulations to George Soule for being appointed Director of Coaching for the Recreational Division. George has a national “C” license from USSF and brings a lifetime of soccer experience to this position. He will work with recreational coaches to develop training programs and standards of instruction, to insure that all players have an opportunity to play at the highest level that they wish to achieve.
